11 Questions Q: Describe your style of music, what bands would you compare yourself to? This has always been a difficult question for us to answer. The best description our fans have given us was “A cross between old Regina Spektor, Damien Rice, and Coldplay.” Other artists we are regularly compared to? Tori Amos, Norah Jones, Lily Allen, and so on.
Q: What are your main musical influences? Honestly, everyone. This may sound lame, but we love everything from classical to heavy metal. It all plays a huge role.
Q: What/Who have been your biggest influences in life and on your lyrics? There is no one particular person or event that sparked all of this, but I can say, if it were not for the ups and downs life has thrown our way, we would never be here today. It is our goal as a band to uplift the listener with either fun tunes to move to or something inspirational to move their soul.
Q: What's in your CD player? I’ve been listening to Garbage all morning. Her pink album.
Q: What other local band would you pay to see play? Why? Oh man, Andy Reed is absolutely amazing. Him. Hands down. Not sure if you would consider that a band. Reason? Well, because he knows what he’s doing, he puts on a good show, and there is nothing bad I have ever been able to say about his music. It always moves me.
Q: What Non-local band would you pay to see play? Why? Frontier Ruckus. Because last time I saw them, it was in this little tiny bar in Lansing Mi, and there was maybe 5 people there, and they absolutely rocked the house. They don’t hold back and I was singing their songs all night.
Q: How did you meet? Rachel and I use to work together at Herter Music Center and Rae was a friend of a friend of a friend, and I heard she could sing. J
Q: Is there an interesting story behind the name of your band? Who came up with the name? A best friend of mine, Adam McAlpine recorded our first original called Prozac. It was fun, but I didn’t really know how long I would write music for, etc. So, we decided to call ourselves The Temporaries. He burned the recording onto a CD for me and entered the name of our band before he handed it over to me. I put it in my computer. Windows Media brought up the song but called us The Limbs. This is how we came up with Temporary Limbs. Haha
Q. Tell us about your first show together. Actually, the first show that “Temporary Limbs” played was on Ojibway Island for a Relay for Life benefit. As a full band, our first show was played at another Relay for Life benefit at Heritage High School a year later.
Q. What have been the high and low points of the band so far? High points have been our amazing fans and overwhelming response. Everyone wants a CD, but we just don’t have the money to get it down. Low points have been the inconsistency of “add-ons”. Everytime we try to find a stable drummer, bassist, synth player, it never works. So, maybe we’ll just stick with our simplicity. It’s been doing the job just fine so far.
Q: You are the first band to play a song on another planet for aliens that have never heard our music, you can play any song ever written, what would you play? Why? I would play our song called Talk. Lol, I’d want to figure out something about those aliens, and maybe them hearing us sing “Talk to me Talk to me” would make them open up a little.
