Biography

Quinn Keon's own brand of "Attitude Rock" is a full-on guitar assault. Quinn says the origin of his music comes from life itself. He draws on his own experiences from the most basic to more complex feelings. Some of Quinn’s favorite "high-energy influences" range from short skirts and high heels to 4-wheel drive mud trucks and high-powered rifles.

Quinn Keon says he represents the working class. "You have to work a little harder if you want to play. Nothing has come easy for me. It’s a lot of hard work and determination every day and the perseverance to overcome many obstacles."

With his unique style combining melody and brute force edge, Quinn is able to deliver a dynamic musical performance. With several vocal and instrumental compositions in his arsenal, Quinn shows that he is fully capable of switching gears with his guitar style, but when he downshifts into "Attitude Rock" you’d better hold on 'cause it’s one hell of a ride.

10 Questions

Q: Describe your style of music? What band(s) would you compare yourself with?

“Attitude Rock” I’d say we deliver old school vibe with a new school edge. Lots of gritty, greasy, guitar licks topped with attitude.

Q: What are your main musical influences?

Well, I can’t speak for Jerry and Chris, but my main influence was the greatest rock guitarist of all time: Ted Nugent. I hear a lot of Nugent, Kiss and Hendrix when I listed to my early material. “Kiss – Lick It Up” and “Twisted Sister – Stay Hungry” made me love rock music. Ted Nugent made me want to learn to play the guitar.

Q: What/Who have been your biggest influences in life and on your lyrics?

I like to say some of my “high-energy influences" range from short skirts and high heels to 4-wheel drive mud trucks and high-powered rifles. I pull from emotions caused by life experiences: friends, hot chicks, assholes, sex, guitars, guns, muscle cars…

Q: What's in your CD player, Ipod?

Right now? Ted Nugent – Double Live Gonzo…the best live album ever.

Q: What other local band would you pay to see play? Why?

I have to give props to some of my friends from back in the day:
Dirty Americans and The Kincaids

We grew up in the same area and that means something to me. I also really dig both of their sounds. Aside from that I like Nervz End and Milligram Smile a lot.

Q: How did you meet?

Jerry and I go way back. He was in my first band straight out of high school. We went separate ways for several years but I am really happy to be working with him again. I met Chris through a friend who knew I was looking for a drummer.

Q: Is there an interesting story behind the name of your band? Who came up with the name?

Just a group of hard working guys working hard.

Q. Tell us about your first show together.

With this lineup our first real show was at Rubbles in Mt. Pleasant, MI opening for Stranger than Fiction. This was Stranger than Fiction’s last show so the place was packed. We tore it up.

Q. What have been the high and low points of the band so far?

I’ve been through lots of ups and downs over the years. I’ve had several points in the past when doors were opening and then I would lose a band member. We can do a lot with the current lineup. We all seem to be on the same page musically. We’ll see how recording goes though. That’s when a band either stays together or breaks up. If you can make it through that process and still be on good terms with each other, then things should go well.

Q: You are the first band to play a song on another planet for aliens that have never heard our music, you can play any song ever written, what would you play? Why?

I would probably opt for just ripping off a few licks to see how they respond. I’d start with some singing feedback from my Les Paul in E on the 12th fret. From there I’d move into A and throw out a few licks in a minor pentatonic with a screaming flat 5. By doing this I would accomplish one of two things: Either they would dig it and want to be my newest MySpace friend, or it would scare the hell out of them and they’d go back to where they came from. :)
