FAQ

Q: What is Bay City Music
A: Bay City Music was founded with the sole mission to help promote and grow the mid-Michigan original music scene by connecting musicians, media, club owners, promoters and most importantly fans.

Q: Why?
A: The vision for Bay City Music was formed when we were walking down a jam packed Midland St. on a Friday night in downtown Bay City and saw 6 or 7 clubs that only had cover bands. Discouraged and ready to go home we finally stumbled upon 1 lone club that played original music and 95% of the people in the bar were in bands that were getting ready to play.  We couldn't believe that so many people would choose to see a cover band over original, bands that work hard to create something unique in a world of normalcy. So, we're doing our part to change the culture in mid-Michigan. In addition, we wanted to be able to provide bands an avenue to maybe pick up an idea that could help them promote themselves.

Q: Will another cover band open for a big touring act?
A: If last years River Roar and the Pig Gig are indications than maybe. Obviously, we hope not. We also promise to lobby, yell, kick, scream and whatever little ol' Bay City Music can do to convince promoters that local original bands should be given the opportunity to showcase their music in front of the larger crowds.

(Los Angeles station KNAC, a station that has "discovered" numereous top acts, sent a fan to write about his experience at River Roar. He had a good time but talked about a cover band opening, wouldn't that have been a perfect opportunity for him to write about a local original band. Q: How Can I Make a difference?
A: The first step is to send us your email address or add us as a friend on MySpace so we can alert you whenever important issues arise regarding original music in mid-Michigan. Secondly, support local music by going to the shows and telling friends about the shows.  Really, is that to much to ask?

Q: Enough about music, will you sell my email address?
A: Absolutely Not. We won't even let your mother, sister, or that really hot girl down the block have it if she asks. We will only use it to send you a monthly schedule of local shows (if you request that we do that)  and to inform you of any grass roots lobbying that we need to do to on behalf of local, original bands. We promise not to kill your inbox with any spam.

Q: I would like to review cd's or concerts for Bay City Music.  How do I do that?
A: Just send us an email by clicking the contact us button and give us your info. We'll get in touch and find something that you'll like.

Q: I'm a better writer than that guy from Rolling Stone, can I submit articles for your website?
A: Yes. Of course, however, all articles are subject to editing and all articles must relate to the mid-Michigan music scene.
Also, we reserve the right to publish or not publish all articles submitted.
