About Besieged

Date formed: Fall, 2003

Josh Schroeder:
Drums

John Pichla: Guitar

Tyler Germain: Bass

Chris Greene: Guitar

Hailing from Michigan’s tri-cities, Besieged is an explosive force in underground music; they do exactly as they please, with complete disregard for fleeting trends in the scene. Drawing upon an extremely vast array of influences, the five members of Besieged  have created their own devastating sound, combining melodic metal with the more punishing elements of hardcore, while staying true to their passionate musical vision.
With several national tours already under their belts, Besieged  aren’t just turning heads – they’re grabbing skulls.

11 Questions

Q: Describe your style of music, who do you sound like?

We’re a combination of American and European metal styles. People have told us we sound like Iron Maiden, In Flames, Unearth, Zao, etc.

Q: What are your main musical influences?

We have too many influences from too many genres to list, and we plan on digging deeper into our varied influences on our upcoming material.

Q: What/Who have been your biggest influences in life and on your lyrics?

God, close friends, bands we’ve played with, bands we’ve seen.

Q: What's in your CD player?

Nine Inch Nails: Year Zero

Q: What other local band would you pay to see play? Why?

Dagon, because they don’t have 20 breakdowns in every song.

Q: What Non-local band would you pay to see play? Why?

Between the Buried and Me. They focus on music, not 8th grade stage antics.

Q: How did you meet?

The original Besieged line-up was a worship band that played weekly for SVSU’s His House organization. We all loved metal, so it just grew from there.

Q: Is there an interesting story behind the name of your band? Who came up with the name?

We wanted a simple name that we didn’t take from a movie or book, which is the current trend with band names. Besieged means its definition, which is to be taken over with force; a very powerful image, but it’s not specific to any one time or place.

Q. Tell us about your first show together

A His House evening event at SVSU. We definitely didn’t fit the bill, but it was a live performance in front of strangers, so I guess it counts, haha.

Q. What have been the high and low points of the band so far?

Good friends leaving the band. Being in a band with close friends is both a blessing and a curse, as not everyone has the same goals with their role in the band, so when friends part, it can be extremely difficult.

Some high points would have to be the extremely successful tours we’ve experienced, loyal fan support, amazing CD release, appearing in AP Magazine, large article in the Bay City times, and to have a globally distributed CD that is being sold through Hot Topic, Best Buy, Amazon, FYE, etc. We’ve accomplished some incredible things, and it’s an awesome feeling.

Q: You are the first band to play a song on another planet for aliens that have never heard our music, you can play any song ever written, what would you play? Why?

Something from Strapping Young Lad, to get on their good side.
